Vice President Robredo will attend an anti Marcos burial rally

Vice President Leni Robredo and other government officials are expected to attend the assembly that is supposed to occupy the Lapu-Lapu monument in Rizal Park Manila, to protest against the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

“We didn’t give a formal invitation to Ma’am Leni. We sent feelers since this is an open invitation for those who are willing to attend and from what I’ve heard she has confirmed her attendance just today,” Jozy Acosta said, the executive committee chair of the Coalition Against Marcos Burial in the Libingan ng mga Bayani (CAMB-LNMB).

Other officials who will attend are Senators Francis Pangilinan, Leila de Lima, Risa Hontiveros, and Grace Poe.

The citizen’s assembly aims to have a signature drive to hinder the burial of Marcos’ remains, said Zena Bernardo of CAMB-LNMB. It will start at 8 a.m. to noon, where there will also be a mini-concert by artists and singers.

However, Bernardo clarified that it will be a peaceful activity and definitely not a rally against the President. It is an anti-Marcos burial assembly and some of the expected attendees are Duterte supporters.

She called on “to let go of their political color” by wearing a white shirt, something to signify unity and humility. She also urged that children will be brought by their parents so they will be knowledgeable of the dark days during Marcos’ regime.

Meanwhile, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano insisted that Marcos be buried in Ilocos Norte, the dictator’s home province. “I’m clamouring for the Marcoses to make the sacrifice themselves and have a very good, decent, meaningful burial there in Ilocos. I hope that the Marcoses would see what is best for the country and not what’s best for the family,” he said. ASCS
