Panelo: People will support Duterte if he declares Martial Law

Public will continue to sustain President Rodrigo Duterte, also if he proclaims martial law, his chief legal counsel Salvador Panelo claimed.

In his report, radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag qouted Panelo as saying he was positive that Duterte would still obtain public support if should this happen.

He added that more people were rallying behind the President, including those who did not support him during the May political elections.

Duterte elevated the possibility of proclaiming martial law on Tuesday, after Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno sent him a letter regarding the 7 judges included in his supposed "narco-list.".

Sereno had actually stated the judges Duterte marked in drug trafficking must not surrender to legislation enforcers unless there were warrants for their arrests.

The President called on Sereno to "not produce a battle, a constitutional battle," and also during Tuesday's speech elevated the possibility of declaring martial law if the judiciary will hinder of his recurring drive against illegal drugs.

The next day, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar clarified that Duterte "merely asked a rhetorical question" including that he knows the restrictions of executive powers.
